Wine Down the River

This past weekend has been absolutely fabulous in every way. The darling city of Healdsburg is an absolute gem -charming town, glorious wineries, and my family's summer house on the Russian River. This little stay-cation is worth making a vacation of.

The first stop when getting to Healdsburg is always the town. Stop by the Shed for a cup of coffee and some cooking essentials - fresh produce, life changing oils and seasonings. The building, by Jensen Architects is a "market, café, and community gathering space designed to bring us closer to the way we grow, prepare, and share our food".

The Shed, by Jensen Architects,

Both the book stores on the square, the leather goods shop, tasting rooms, pet store and so many others (scroll down to the map at the end to see all of my favorite spots) are worth your time if you need a break from all-day day-drinking, or a place to go when the wineries close (an incredibly unfair 4 or 5pm). I really enjoy Campo Fina for some open air bocce ball, or The Wurst for an incredibly satisfying brat and beer (plus a million sauces to chose from to go with), which also has lovely outdoor seating.

Food and wine are reason enough for me to adore darling Healdsburg, but I love the summer camp vibes from the family house along the Russian River up on Fitch Mountain. BBQ on the deck, wading and floating along the River, large groups gathering around the dining table for twelve, and board games.

Thanks for humoring me and flipping through all those vacation photos. The weekend was so much fun, I look forward to going back again this summer, and in the years to come.

Do you have any favorite wineries or places to check out in Sonoma? Please give me some ideas for next time I make it up to wine country again. Maybe it'll be with you!
